Carytown Morphs into Times Square on New
Years' Eve.
Following in the tradition of the Big Apple's annually televised NYE
extravaganza, the Carytown Merchants Association and
RVA Magazine will transform lower Carytown into an outdoor
playground for ringing in the new year.
2007 will be preceded by live sets from
Johnny Cash cover band, Black Cash and the Bad Trips and local indie rock acts
the OK Bird and Duchess of York. DJs will be spinning for pre-gaming while
revelers enjoy the heated vendor booths serving hot and cold refreshments.
The beer garden, with it's great selection of microbrews, will be available to
the over-twenty-one set. The grand event - a custom made, lighted ball drop -
will be synced with the countdown marking the final moments of 2006! Auld Lang
Syne will be performed by Anthony Jackson, local R&B performer.
